Teaming up with Clients’ Fundraising Staff

Community Link is a leader in enabling Charlotte, NC, residents to obtain and sustain safe, decent, and affordable housing. The need is such that Community Link staff is constantly busy helping program participants—and fundraising to maintain and expand housing services.

Community Link began working with Communication Mark in order to take advantage of opportunities to obtain competitive government grants that it had limited time to pursue. Grants awarded to date have exceeded a total of $6 million, including funds to provide new, supportive services to military veterans in need of stable housing. Communication Mark has also coordinated the creation of complex housing partnership grants for coalitions in which Community Link is active.

This supplementary role is a common one for Communication Mark, in which it provides capacity by acting as de facto fundraising staff when the need arises. Playing such a part allows Community Link to focus on priorities that are more difficult to delegate, while still maintaining adequate control over the grant proposal process. It also gives Community Link access to expertise that has made its proposals shine, such as when Communication Mark has mined data to demonstrate local need, or has designed budget templates to calculate complex financial projections.

Communication Mark relishes using the power of communication to convey a depth of understanding about its clients and those whom they serve. It is how we help to bring positive change and to make our clients’ important work feel a bit easier.
