Sandra grew up in the coal region of northeast Pennsylvania, the grandchild of immigrant farmers. She was the first of her siblings to pursue higher education. She worked as a music therapist and teacher before pausing to focus on parenting.
A family move to northern Nevada led Sandra to seek a graduate degree in MA-TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). As a graduate research assistant, she helped write a ~$2 million U.S. Department of Education grant, which she subsequently coordinated when it was funded. Promoted to manage the educational research center at which that grant resided, she was responsible for finding, developing, writing, and overseeing multiple large projects simultaneously. In her most recent role, Sandra assisted a small, liberal arts college in assessing and developing institutional capacity for a robust grants program.
Sandra enjoys tandem bicycling, cuisines with complex spice palettes, nature photography, travel, and wordsmithing. She has practiced interspiritual study and contemplation for as long as she can remember.
Sarah’s passion for non-profit development and grant writing began at the College of Charleston. Earning her bachelor’s in Arts Management, she built her fundraising skills at various organizations in the South Carolina Lowcountry and western North Carolina. Prior to joining Communication Mark, she supported the fundraising efforts and completion of a capital campaign for the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts. Sarah gets most excited about evaluating organizational structures and finding revenue streams to maximize programming efforts. She balances life through lots of playtime with her son.
